novelised

the beginning
This is the section where you'll find information about the Elfquest novels. In total there are three novels; 'Journey to Sorrow's End', 'The Quest Begins' and 'Captives at Blue Mountain'. It starts, just like the comics, at the time when the Wolfriders still live in the Father Tree Holt. It ends, however at the point where Cutter and Skywise sit atop of the Blue Mountain. I, personally would see Wendy write more of these kind of novels, but since she's so busy with 'Mask of the Red Death' and the upcoming Elfquest movie, I guess, there won't be many novels in the near future, if ever.

Anyway, the beauty of the novels is, they give details you never read about in the comics. Insights to elves' thoughts, their relationships with other elves and a more detailed descriptions of the surroundings, scenes and much more. We've all known about Strongbow's dislike of the Sun Villagers, and especially Leetah, which is later worked out more in the comics.

The novels work out most of my favourite Quest in Elfquest; 'The Original Quest'. It's where you really see elves develop, and some set more in their ground foundations. Especially Strongbow who seems to stand vast in his beliefs, but the more the story progresses, the more his firm beliefs seem to be rock hard and almost unyielding. This is what gives flair to his character. While others adjust their feelings and opinions, he stands firm, clinging to the old ways he was grown up with, strengthening with the situations he wrestles through.

People who have not read the comics, I really recommend them, because they're a great addition to your Elfquest collection. It's the very best of Wendy's abilities, that she's not only capable of drawing such great comics, but also to write a very deep and extensive story that strengthens the story that we've all come to love.

WARNING!
The text below contains spoilers. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read!!

journey to sorrow's end
This is where we meet our favourite band of elves. After having rescued Redlance from the humans, the oh so hated band of fire-loving creatures decide to burn the entire Holt, and forest, down. The Wolfriders are forced to flee and take refuge in the Trolls' caves. This is where we first see Strongbow, taking care of his little son Dart AND his bow, one in one hand and one in the other, both seeming 'interchangeable'. Both equally valuable to him.
