Moonshade is the Wolfriders' tanner. Though the process can be lengthy and tedious, Moonshade enjoys the quiet hours bringing the beauty out of supple hide. Moonshade, like her lifemate Strongbow, is quite the traditionalist, strong-minded and with an unshakable ideology. Completely devoted to him, Moonshade defends him even when she knows him to be wrong. Moonshade has spent more years away from her son, Dart, than with him. While she missed him terribly, Moonshade understood and accepted that Dart was where he was needed.

Harder was her separation from Strongbow: when the archer was required to be part of the force set to retrieve the Palace shards, Moonshade followed her own duty, leaving with Ember's new tribe. Agonized over leaving Strongbow, she found it hard to take orders from Ember, who she felt was no more than a half-grown cub. Things only grew worse each time Ember turned down her advice. It took a false vision of Moonshade's long-dead daughter, Crescent, to provide a bridge between advisor and new chief.After the quest to recover the Palace shards, Moonshade was reunited with Strongbow and joined the rest of the older members of the tribe to help reestablish the Father Tree Holt.

Not much is known about Crescent's character. From what we see in Wolfrider!, she's a fisher and likes to fish alone. She seems to be a carefree, spirited character, though somewhat hot-headed, and has the hair of her father and the eyes of her mother.

The recognition that resulted in the birth of Crescent happened during Strongbow giving archery lesson to Moonshade. Not much is known about her early childhood. We first meet her when she's receiving archery lessons from her father, when they find out that the wolf Farsong, has been killed by humans. Having killed all of Farsong's cubs, except Crescent's wolf friend Windchaser. In this scene we see that Crescent has the same spirit as her father, when she wants to have blood for blood. But Bearclaw does not allow her nor Strongbow to teach the lesson to the humans and goes rescuing the wolf cub.

The next thing we see of her, and the last time we see her alive, Crescent's fishing in a pond when two humans kill her and take her to hang her skull to their pillar of sacrifice...

Dart was six years old when he and the other Wolfriders were burned out of the Father Tree Holt. Although he was born a Wolfrider, he considers the Sun Village his real home. Dart chose to stay behind with the Sun Villagers to become their hunter, protector, and teacher. He leads what have become known as the Jackwolf Riders. The battle with the Go-Backs over the Little Palace changed something inside Dart. He worked to rebuild the Sun Village, but could not escape the memories of the battle and the death of his soul brother, Shushen.

Being sealed in wrapstuff did not prevent his Recognition by Serrin, the daughter of Wing and Behtia. It was their son, Bowki, who brought Dart a measure of happiness again and a chance to forget the past for a while. Dart has led the Jackwolf Riders on a quest of their own. When Windkin traveled to the Forevergreen Forest in search of the source of a strange sending, Dart and his small band (made of Kimo, Dodia, Yun, Jethel, Chot, Shenshen, and Suntop) followed. After their adventure in the Forevergreen Forest, Dart returned to the original Father Tree Holt with his parents.

Chitter is the newest addition to the Wolfriders. Though she is the daughter of Strongbow and Moonshade, she's nothing like her parents. She's a real chatterbox and even gets on Strongbow's soft side. She demands that her father speaks, like she does, rather than his preferred sending and, oh boy, does she get her way.

Chitter is a carefree little cub and clearly brings joy (and sometimes irritation) to her parents, brother Dart, and the tribe.

Trueflight is shown in Wolfrider!, and there is very little known about her. Assuming, she was an archer and made her own bows (and the quiver Strongbow lost in the bear chase). She seems a gentle character, but again, there's very little information available about her.
